About the MGS
Founded in 1991, the MGS is comprised of both amateur and professional artifact, fossil, and mineral collectors. MGS emphasizes collecting, identification, study and display aspects of the geological sciences. MGS is a nonprofit organization affiliated with the American Federation of Mineralogical Societies (AFMS) and the Eastern Federation of Mineralogical and Lapidary Societies (EFMLS).
MGS membership offers:
 |
CLUB
MEETINGS - MGS meets 6 times a year where, after business
is conducted, new finds are shared, and a geology or palentology
related program is presented. Door prizes and a silent auction
conclude the day's events. Some members also bring fossils, minerals, and other items for sale. Meetings are a great time to meet new folks, see old friends, show new finds, and even help get some of those fossils, minerals, or artificats identified. |
 |
OFFICERS- Use your time and talents to serve the club. Here's the current list of MGS officers. |
 |
THE ROSTRUM - The club newsletter includes news, articles, finds, and humor. Do you like to write or draw? We love to read articles from our members and their children too. |
 |
COLLECTING TRIPS - The club regularly arranges trips to many local as well as out
of state collecting sites where club affiliation is required. |
 |
ANNUAL PICNIC -
MGS holds a family picnic each year at a designated site along the
Chesapeake Bay. The location usually offers up a chance to go fossil collecting too! |
 |
ANNUAL AUCTION -
MGS holds an annual auction in which there's usually a nice variety of fossils, minerals, publications, tools, etc. |
Hope to see you at a meeting soon,
Brady Hamilton.
