About the MGS
Founded in 1991, the MGS has been a club enjoyed by both amateur and professional fossil and mineral collectors.
MGS emphasizes collecting, identification, study, and display aspects of the geological sciences.
MGS is a nonprofit organization affiliated with the American Federation of Mineralogical Societies (AFMS) and the Eastern Federation
of Mineralogical and Lapidary Societies (EFMLS).
MGS membership offers:
- CLUB MEETINGS - MGS meets 6 times a year on the third Sunday
of every other month, beginning in January. Club meetings offer an opportunity to meet people with similar interests, share finds, get help
with the identification of specimens, hear a paleontology or geology related program, and otherwise participate in the life of the club.
A silent auction of fossils, minerals, and artifacts concludes club meetings.
- THE ROSTRUM - The club newsletter comes out every other month in advance of each meeting.
Each issue is emailed to members. The newsletter presents a message from the club president, background on the mineral of the meeting, information on
upcoming trips, reports from past trips, a list of upcoming fossil and mineral shows and events, plus a host of other items of interest to club members. All members are encouraged to contribute articles, poems, and drawings to the newsletter. This invitation includes the children of the club, too.
- COLLECTING TRIPS - The club regularly arranges trips to many local as well as out-of-state collecting sites.
Unless specified, only current club members can participate in these trips.
- ANNUAL AUCTION - MGS holds an open auction in September which offers a great variety of fossils, minerals, publications, tools, etc.
Hope to see you at a meeting soon,
