MGS members who submit articles
for the Rostrum may be elligible for winning certain "journalistic"
type awards if their articles are submitted to one of the various federations
that the MGS is a member of. Below is a list of the awards along with
the members names and types of articles:

Editors Advisory Committee Awards
The
Easter Federation of Mineral and Lapidary Societies, Inc. have recognized
the following members of MGS for their written contributions to The Rostrum:
2004 Awards
• Poetry
- Rick Smith received a Trophy Award for “The Projectile Point”
in Volume 12, No. 2. This poem also received a 1st Place Award by the
American Federation of Mineralogical Societies in Adult Poetry. Rick also
received a 6th Place Award for “Miocene Treasures” in Volume
12, No. 3.

Non-Technical Articles - Honorable Mention Awards were presented
to Don Miller for “What’s in a Name?” in Volume 12,
No. 2.
• Written
Features - Honorable Mention Awards were presented to Phil Schmitz
for “January Program” in Volume 12, No. 2 and to Glenn D.
Roche for “More than Science” in Volume 12, No. 2.
• Large
Bulletins - Robert C. Asreen, Jr. received a 2rd Place Award.
The Rostrum also received an Honorable Mention Award by the American Federation
of Mineralogical Societies as a Large Bulletin.
2003 Awards
• Poetry
- Rick Smith received a Trophy Award for “Fossil Shark Tooth Addiction”
in Volume 12, No. 1. This poem also received a 1st Place Award by the
American Federation of Mineralogical Societies in Adult Poetry. Terry
Cirrincione received a 3trd Place Award for “Ceratopsian”
in Volume 11, No. 4 and Rick Smith also received a 4th Place Award for
“A Bridge Across Time” in Volume 11, No. 4.

Features - Paul R. Murdoch, Jr. received a Trophy Award for “Articulated
Porpoise Skeleton Excavated at Calvert Cliffs, Part 1,” in Volume
11, No. 2. This article also received a 1st Place Award by the American
Federation of Mineralogical Societies as an Original Adult Article.
